About Women Lead

In October 2019, Equal Voice Central Vancouver Island and the City of Nanaimo were granted funding through Women and Gender Equality Canada in partnership with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to create a mentorship program for young women called Women Lead.

Equal Voice and the City of Nanaimo were inspired to create the Women Lead program by both statistics (as noted on our home page) and evidence that consistently demonstrates that women are underrepresented in leadership positions.

The goal of Women Lead is to help shift these statistics by engaging women leaders in our community to mentor young women and empower them to see the leadership possibilities for themselves as they start out on their career path.

Equal Voice Central Vancouver Island

Launched on March 8, 2020 (International Women’s Day!) the goal of this program is simple but powerful – to address the gender imbalance in leadership positions by mentoring young women so they are empowered to take on leadership roles in any career they chose to pursue.

We are always interested in adding more mentors to our list! If you’d like to get involved, please email central.vanisland@equalvoice.ca.
